Savoring the Past
The history of the Chile Pepper Festival at Jolly Lane Greenhouse is a captivating story of passion and growth, encapsulating the essence of Savoring the Past. It began in 2006 with Tim’s fascination for chile pepper roasting, initially sparked during a fall visit to Colorado. His journey soon led him to connect with chile growers and to be inspired by Hatch, New Mexico—the chile pepper capital. This inspiration fueled a remarkable expansion, with production soaring from 50 bushels to an impressive 200 bushels. By 2018, the festival had blossomed from a modest one-day event into a vibrant three-day celebration. Now featuring 4-5 specialty chile pepper beers, live music, 10-12 food trucks, and a diverse array of local craft beers, the festival reflects its origins while embracing growth. The event showcases 800 bushels of chiles, many roasted now by four commercial-sized roasters, and a bustling farmers market offering the freshest produce from across the United States. Marking your calendar ensures you can savor the historical journey and the ever-changing flavors of this remarkable festival and season.
