Dean
Sime was sick of work. He woke up each morning and dreaded
going into the auto body shop where he worked. It was definitely
time for a changea big change.
"A
greenhouse up the road from our house came up for sale, and
Dean came home one day and told me he was buying the greenhouse,"
says Norma Sime, his wife.
"That
was almost a divorce," Dean laughs.
The
very same greenhouse is now part of the Jolly Lane Greenhouse,
one of many greenhouses in the Sime's family-run business.
"No
one knows why I started. I certainly didn't have a green thumb,"
Sime says.
But
more than 30 years later, and after a lot of hard work, a
concerted family effort, studying and mistakes, the Jolly
Lane Greenhouse has become a successful enterprise. The Sime's
five children: Scott, Pam, Angie, Todd and Tim, have all shared
a role in the expansion of the greenhouse operation.
Today,
a flower shop in Rapid City, a production facility in Box
Elder, the retail garden center in Rapid Valley, and a wholesale
production operation comprise the Jolly Lane Greenhouse.
