Shrubs

We offer a large assortment of bushes and shrubs to anchor your landscape design. Shrubs are commonly chosen to add year-round color to a yard, cover large areas, or offer privacy. Bushes and shrubs come in a variety of colors and sizes, and often require minimal care. Choose a flowering shrub for a foundation plant, or an evergreen hedge to clearly define a space. Our staff can help you select the right shrub for your design, space, and location.

Featured shrub:

Black Lace Elderberry (Sambucus nigra ‘Eva’)

One of the first of the new elderberries to show off the dark, Japanese maple-like lace foliage, Black Lace Elderberry is simply stunning. Umbels of pink flowers, 10 inches across, dot the plant in mid-summer and give off a slight lemony fragrance. It makes a wonderful accent plant and can even be trained into a small tree or standard.

Black Lace Elderberry is hardy to zone 4, and although it dies back in colder zones, it regrows quickly in season. It grows 6-8’ tall and 6-8’ wide and is best planted in full sun. The shrub blooms in early summer with soft pink flowers that fade to white above the deep purple foliage. The plant’s berries are edible and make a nice jelly or wine, but the birds like them too.
