Growing Tips

South Dakota Native Plants

The Great Plains of America exhibits a diverse selection of perennials, shrubs, and evergreens. In recent years, the greenhouse industry has seen a strong interest in native plant material and consumers are aware of the virtues of using plant material acclimated to local climate.

The Great Plants program from the Nebraska Nursery and Landscape Association was established in 1997 to promote exceptional plants of the Plains that are hardy, easy to care for, and ornamentally worthwhile for home landscaping. A similar initiative from the Denver Botanical Gardens and Panayoti Kelaidis, the Plant Select program, promotes outstanding plants that work well in the Western South Dakota area.

Jolly Lane Greenhouse has adopted a vigorous selection process to accommodate this new trend. Our greenhouse showcases both the Plant Select and the Great Plants award winners to help make your garden and landscaping exciting, successful, and well-rounded.
