Fall Perennial Gardening
Perennial
gardening kicks into high gear in the fall of the year. The
perfect time for renovating that perennial garden is after
the first frost of the year. As the foliage of perenial plants
dies and dries up one can dig and divide most perennial plants
that have overgrown an area or have started to decline from
being overcrowded. The foliage can be cut back and the roots
can be dug up, cut into sections, replanted in a bigger area
or given to friends.
Now is
also the perfect time to add perennials to these beds. Areas
that were sparse or had little color can be filled in this
time of year. Jolly Lane Greenhouse has perennials that would
fill in these areas. Hosta are great, durable, carefree plants
all spring and summer into fall. They are perfect for the
shaded or partially shaded areas. Daylillies are another perennial
we currently have available. Daylillies are an extremely tough
and disease resistant plant. Three exceptional varieties currently
available are 'Strawberry Candy', 'Pardon Me', 'Stella de
Oro', and 'Happy Returns'. These daylillies are all long blooming
varieties and add color to the perennial bed all summer and
fall long.
